Teaching [about] trash might seem simple. But, if you want to evaluate your trash, you have to use strict methodology. The US EPA has drafted a full recommendation on how to gather, sort, and document your trash collection using an “Escaped Trash Assessment Protocol”. At first, it might seem daunting to image sorting and weighing each one of the categories listed on the data sheet for all the trash you collect, but don’t worry, you can use a control sample and extrapolate.
