We undertake this project in collaboration with the Hamilton County Conservation District. Live Staking is a great way to get outside in winter months and lay the groundwork for a healthier stream. Live stakes are cuttings taken from dormant, living, water-loving tree or shrub species. These cuttings are planted along eroding streambanks where they will grow into new trees, stabilizing the streambanks with their roots, reducing pollution and creating habitat.
Mill Creek Yacht Club Volunteers will install live stakes in sections of eroded stream bank, accessing the restoration area via canoe. We ask that only people who are very comfortable in canoes sign up for this project. You must be able to navigate slippery steep banks wearing high boots and waders and work from within the moving creek.
