MCYC Urban Stream Adventure

Mid summer stream adventure involves paddling from Carthage to Northside. MCYC veterans will prepare for departure/put-in at Caldwell Playground Park (not Caldwell Nature Preserve), 316 W. North Bend Road, Cincinnati, OH 45216.

Paddlers will actually gather in the morning at the take-out location, at the trailhead of the Greenway Trail in Salway Park, 4336 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati (45223) near the Old Timber Inn). MCYC veterans will provide a caravan of selected shuttle vehicles from our take-out at Salway Park to our put-in on North Bend Road. Total distance for the paddle is about 4¼ miles and will take at least 3½ hours.

Challenges in this section of the creek include:

  • jagged and sharp objects in stream

  • need to portage your canoe or kayak

  • low-head dams and rocky riffles that can be hard to navigate

  • slow currents and shallow waters during dry spells

  • strainers – branches and fallen trees amid the stream current

Opportunities include viewing plants and animals along the creek, experiencing the channelized portion of the creek, passing through Ivorydale, and so much more.

MCYC Urban Stream Adventures are partially sponsored by REI.
