Citizen Scientists in Action
The Mill Creek Alliance conducts water quality monitoring of 57 locations in the Mill Creek watershed on the second Saturday of the month from March through November each year. Our dedicated volunteers work in organized teams to collect water samples in the field as well as run analyses on all of our samples in the laboratory. Anyone is welcome to join this program, all it takes is registration and a few required training videos- no previous sampling or laboratory experience is necessary.
This 12 year strong program is vital for monitoring the health of the Mill Creek and relies completely on committed volunteers like you! Volunteers can participate in streamside water sample collection, laboratory analysis, or both. There are many ways that you can help us accomplish this work and you are welcome to join us in whatever capacity works best for you.
If you are interested in a fun and rewarding volunteer experience, and you’d like to help us make a difference, please email Beth Himburg at bhimburg@themillcreekalliance.org. We look forward to working with you!
(Please note that this volunteer opportunity is best for individuals, not groups, as our laboratory is small and our teams move from site to site in the field. If you are interested in opportunities for groups to learn about water quality in the Mill Creek, please email Beth Himburg and we can discuss alternate upcoming educational opportunities.)
