Mill Creek Alliance works tirelessly to engage the 37 communities in the Mill Creek Watershed through both restoration projects and cleanups. Our large scale restoration projects improve the water quality and the ecosystem that supports freshwater mussels, bass, walleye, mink, osprey, and other indicator species. Volunteers - including the infamous Mill Creek Yacht Club - conduct regular cleanups in and along the Mill Creek.

Other enhancement projects in 2020:

  • Large scale projects including wetland enhancement, dam mitigation, live stake installation, new bike and water trail planning, and native species restoration.

  • Installation of 3 “Litter Gitters” on the Mill Creek to collect trash and use USEPA ETA (Escaped Trash Protocol) to collect data about the types of trash in the watershed.

  • 2020 Trash-a-Thon and other cleanups pulled out over 400 tires and 5 tons of trash.

Mill Creek Alliance has been providing quality environmental education programs throughout the Cincinnati area for over 25 years. Our education opportunities include water education field trips and programs for secondary students, service learning activities at restoration sites, environmental internships for college age students, summer programs for youth, and educational programs in the community.

Highlights of recent educational activities accomplished:

  • New virtual content including MCA Cafe video series and video about water quality and life in the creek.

  • 10 Blue Team college interns in 2020 from UC, Xavier, Mt. St. Joseph University, Thomas More, and Miami University.

  • Training for USEPA Level II Qualified Data Collection.

  • Across the years, 40,000 middle and high school students served from over 90 local schools.
